Hallyu may still be a niche thing in Japan instead of widespread like a decade ago, but you can’t deny that TWICE has been receiving lots of popularity and recognition over there especially among young people. They’ve been consistently ranked among the top 10 or 20 female idol girl groups that Japanese teens like on some Japanese surveys, and they’ve been recently confirmed to attend Kouhaku Uta Gassen, the most prestigious end-of-the-year music show in Japan that requires an invite and one which every singer in Japan hopes to perform at in their lifetime. The only other Kpop acts that have ever performed on that show were BoA, SNSD, TVXQ, and KARA before they stopped inviting Kpop acts altogether.
